Quiet Acts of Kindness

I am so moved by the generosity of my friend.

She was very involved with the care of her brother who died a year ago after a prolonged illness. She had hired a wonderful caregiver who she trusted wholeheartedly. The caregiver was a tremendous comfort and giver of care to her brother.

The caregiver, despite her wonderful work, did not enjoy financial stability. My friend decided to make the caregiver co-owner of her brother's small house in Sonoma. She now has a place to stay when she needs to get away from the hectic East Bay and the beloved caregiver has a home that she will inherit upon my friend's death.

I met my friend 6 years ago, 3 months after her husband died. She took care of him for the better part of a decade. Since her dear husband's death, she has been able to provide considerable emotional and financial support to several other family members who are now either homeowners or in college or have become more stable and secure because of my friend's generosity of spirit and purse.

I feel moved and inspired by these small enormous quiet acts of the heart. We need more people like my friend moving the needle of humanity towards pure goodness. Shalom.
