Can your breath be a clock?

Today I learned about the Buddhist concept of horizontal and vertical time. Horizontal time refers to the past and the future on a continuum.

Vertical time is right here, right now. The present as I sit with an erect spine in meditation, my breath is a clock of the moment. This is all there is. Each moment is all there is. Again and again, anew.

"I'm in the present moment, feeling the breath rising up and down the center of my body. There's no need to go anywhere. There's no regret of the past, nor apprehension of the future." - Lewis Richmond, Buddhist

My breath keeps time.
